Built out obsolesce

About 18 years ago, I inherited an ancient vacuum cleaner. For about ten years it was mistreated (by me) - imagine a partially sighted and impatient #diy attempting 12 hours work, 6.5 days a week, and hoovering up dropped screws, wood chippings, etc.

I've mended the hoover many times (Dyson DC01) but recently gave up - I'll have to buy a new one.

Today - one final attempt to fix it... It works :)

I wish all 'consumer' goods were as well designed and constructed as this.

I find it amusing that Brits call all vacuum cleaners 'Hoovers'. Hoover produced one brand of vacuum in the U.S. It is a little known or quality brand now.

In Little England, hoover is also a verb, meaning to clean with a vacuum cleaner!

I wonder what new meanings the word 'trump' will acquire in future?
