beyond religious extremism

In what? Most people, in all countries, are victims of the few that create social and political problems. Often those with an unhealthy obsession with power.

There is a simpler recipe for a better world than obsessing over dogma, let alone the distortions of (all) religions that serve the interests of the few.

Imagine and feel the experience of others.

Such kindness is contagious. Everything else is sleep, albeit with ones eyes apparently open.

If you fancy a real challenge, carry the gift of empathy to someone difficult. Sometimes it works, sometimes it appears not to, then years later you discover it did :)
