electricity storage, corporations and death

Developing capacitors rather than batteries to store solar-generated electricity

Nano capacitance from waste is cheaper than batteries for solar storage and electric vehicles.

Who'd have thought the cigarette "industry", surely one of the most destructive ever devised (see below), could accidentally provide the raw materials, albeit in the form of litter, to produce cheap, lightweight electricity storage ...
the science:
http://iopscience.iop.org/0957-4484/25/34/345601/

full title:
Preparation of energy storage material derived from a used cigarette filter for a super capacitor electrode.

Summary:
We report on a one-step method for preparing nitrogen doped (N-doped) meso-/microporous hybrid carbon material (NCF) via the heat treatment of used cigarette filters under a nitrogen-containing atmosphere. The used cigarette filter, which is mostly composed of cellulose acetate fibers, can be transformed into a porous carbon material that contains both the mesopores and micropores spontaneously.

About the tobacco 'industry': There was a report in the news, recently, about the most common causes of premature death.

It seems that for ever armed conflict has been at the top of the Premier League of Unfathomable Stupidity, but in the middle of the 20th century the tobacco 'industry' caught up, and is still there. Sadly, the top of the league is now a 3 way battle between tobacco, 'defence', and obesity.

This sorry state of affairs is more comprehensible when the top three use their full titles:
  The Defence Corporations
The Tobacco Corporations
The AgriBusiness/Food Corporations

Fortunately, two of the three are to some extent optional. Given information, education and modest civil liberties, people can choose to escape the snares of the tobacco and agri/food monsters

If you can't resist the nonsense of adverts - turn them off.
