Screenwriter Robert Nelson and director Lasse Hallstrom did a fine job on adapting the book for cinema, and it was nominated for 5 Academy Awards and 8 BAFTAs.
Chocolat tells the story of a young mother, played by Juliette Binoche, who arrives at the fictional, repressed French village of Lansquenet-sous-Tannes with her six-year-old daughter and opens La Chocolaterie Maya, a small chocolaterie. Her chocolate quickly begins to change the lives of the townspeople, particularly the grandmother (Julie Dench) who hasn't any contact with her grandson, and the abused wife (played by the partner of the director, I believe). On offer now at Amazon for $9.99!
